Lately I've noticed that all the new posts on this site are by newbies, and all answers by poster-happy veterans, and set out to scientifically check my assumption. This was simple enough - I just browsed through the memberslist.
What I found is that out of the ~9400 users on this site only 50 have over 200 posts, only 200 have over 50 posts (no typos here, just data), and only 700 over 20 posts; not only that, but 3300 have 0 posts!
Conclusion: This site is held together by a chosen few - about 50 or so dedicated men and women - who stand guard at the gates on the onset of the newbie question flood (5000 newbies, mind you). I heartily salute these 50 brave souls, god's be!
Conclusion 2: Where are all these new people coming from? Have they no literature of their own? Have they no test QMs to make experiments on? Have they no sense of problem solving? Have they no sense at all??
But most importantly, who are the Silent 3300? The ghosts of MQAdmins past? UFO's with a keen sense for software integration? |

They are "MQ Administrators" making 20K, and we happily make the problem worse, either because we like to talk, we like to help, or we know we learn from helping others. _________________ Peter Potkay

Not sure where they are coming from, but I'm glad to see new people using WMQ.

This sounds like you've been watching too many previews for the new fall TV shows. |

Nope, I don't have a TV (it's EEEVIL!) and am not planning on getting one. I do, however, have an all too vivid imagination...

What, you don't make 20K?
But granted, being a decadent Integration Consultant myself, I sometimes wonder how much money i'm losing by posting here... |

So am I.
If only mqseries.net had a RSS feed. I'm trying out QuickNews for my Treo 600 and it is cool.

Btw, another interesting statistical figure is the highest posted forum by far: "WMQI (MQSI) Support forum" with 30711 (!) posts, and a distant second "General MQSeries Support" with only 17168 posts. In fact, this single forum contains about the same number of posts as all the other MQ forums put together (excluding WorkFlow)
This keeping in mind that WBI is a relatively new product, and has only come to wide use in the past 2 or 3 years, while MQ has been around since ~1993 and has been in wide use since 1999.
So, what does this tell you of this fine IBM product?
1. It's crap - an overly complex, utterly buggy, and thouroughly annoying product.
2. It's wonderful! marvelous! the greatest product to ever tingle my fingertips!
3. It is such an intriguing subject, with such a large world-view, it triggers deep philosophical discussions on the nature of message-flows and custom parsers.
4. It has a very large audience, larger than MQ, thus the greater number of posts.
No, it's not 2... neither is it 3, or 4... think again |

Hi,
I would put money on #4 and #1 (in that order).
Now back to RSS feeds, I am so pleased with Quick News that I bought it yesterday (after only 5 days of trying it out). It didn't hurt that it is on sale at PalmGear.

Well, I wouldn't put down my money (I would put down your money), but I'm going to go with #2 and #3. |

I confess, I am addicted to this site, too. It's a rare work day when I don't check the forum to see what's new on the MQ boards. I also confess that I sometimes hesitate to post for fear of.... what exactly? I dunno.
On the WMQI topic, I'm not sure I think it is thoroughly crappy, but it is too terribly complex and not one bit intuitive.
I do feel like the "masters" and "grand masters" on the board are old friends. And I appreciate them and this site a lot.

Same thing with Jeff (6000+)
The second poster is kirani (3710+). 1 out 16 is Jeff's post. Moreover, they don't visit workflow forum. |
