Hello,

I have installed 5.3 with fix pack 10 on a SuSE 9.0 and 9.2 machine. All ok so far; I can start the queue manager and listener and perform basic queue operations. There are Java applications running on the servers that use the classes in /opt/mqm/lib and /opt/mqm/java/lib to read from and write to queues, but (as far as I know) don't run apps like runmqsc or amqsput.

What I propose is:

- the users running the Java apps shall have LIBPATH=/opt/mqm/java/lib
and LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/mqm/java/lib as environment variables

- the queue manager and listener start on boot as the mqm user

- the mqm user has LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 set in its profile (~/.bash_profile), and no other users have permissions on the MQ binaries

Is this enough to ensure smooth operation? The previous sysadmin had everything (MQ, apps, everything) running as root, who was also a member of the mqm group :( Any other "gotchas" that I could come across?

Thanks very much,
Ian

Yes ...
There might be a number of applications out there triggered or not that used to run right because root was part of the mqm group.

Now if root is no longer part of the mqm group you are going to flush those out of the woodwork and are going to have to deal with the security issues.

This is a good thing as in my opinion root should not have been part of the mqm group.... but then that's my opinion...
