You can move your string in a blob and make a loop to parse each carracter in HEX and contruct a blob without your specials chars.
A last you cast your blob variable into string.

In WMQI 2.1 you can save your values in the "Environement" variable.
ex:
"SET Environment.Variables.MyError='y error';"

Consequenly you'll have in memory during all the messageflow the value:
