I have a question about local unit of work.

I am using MQ on Solaris and coding C++.
What happens to the transcation when a commit/backout fails?

I am using the MQ C++ object model.
Is it wise to do an implicit connection when doing an MQGet / MQPut?
Is the connection cached?
