We are putting together a design where there are five queues on QM1 connecting to five queues on QM2. Messages go both ways as there are request/replies included.
We are intending to have two channels for all connections, one in each direction.
Other than if a queue fills up resulting in the single channel going down, are there any other implications.
The channel going down should be a rareity as we have queue monitoring, throughput, messages expiry and queue depth make this unlikely.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of having a single channel for multiple queue pair connections?
Opinions?
Thanks

Hi,
You can have one precautionary measure use CHAD(ENABLED) on both the queue manager and restart the queue managers. In case if any channel goes down, and a new message has been requested then channels will start automatically by the queue managers and further communication could be possible.
If you are pretty sensitive about the time factor in terms of request & reply then identify following statistics.
1. No / Size of messages per sec transferred.
2. Average response time.
3. Max no of message at the pick time.
If you will be looking at the above statistics then you are the best judge in order to improve response time second pair of channel can be used or not.
All the best.

Eknath,
CHAD is Channel Auto Definition. It's used for automatical creation of channel receivers for the first time connection.
There is no relation between this to channel beeing down.
Also you don't need to restart queue manager when changing to CHAD(ENABLED).
dmj,
Usually only one pair of channels is used to each direction.
But you can use more :
1. You want some pair of channels for large batch messages and second for lite quick interactive messages.
2. You want to use more than one listener. _________________ Regards.
