Dear Forum,
On one of our Qmgrs I discovered the following situation: MQ automatically starts tracing, resulting in one trace file per MQ process and these trace files keep growing indefinitely ( > 1 GB).
Strange thing is here that MQ seems to run fine, the QMgr error log reports no problems, only in the system-wide error log every now and then an internal error comes up stating either
----- amqxfdcp.c : 626 or
----- amqxfdcp.c : 660.
Environment is win2000, SP3. MQ version is 5.3, no CSDs. MQ runs under local account MUSR_MQADMIN.
Has anyone seen this behaviour before and knows how to solve it?
TIA,
Rob van der Spek

Are you running an WAS embedded qmgr? WAS controls MQ trace and will restart tracing when a qmgr is restarted. Across eg. a reboot, MQ will not remember trace status. Across a qmgr restart it might... Try endmqtrc and then see if it ever restarts itself... |

No, I am running a plain MQ Series server and no special things like XA, clients, or exits.
Endmqtrc does not stop the tracing. Even when I change the registry setting /trace/Startup=1 to Startup=0, this is reset to 1 again after I restart the queue manager. |

Dont do it via the registry. The qmgr services take a snapshot of the registry at start, and write it back at the end, and hence will overwrite your value.
If you have to do it via the reigstry, stop the MQ service, stop all apps, stop the MMC GUI's etc, and ensure that amqmsrvn.exe is not running (at this point, if it is, kill it). Then you can change the registry...
The better way would be to load the MQ service gui and change the trace service to manual start. |

Jason, thanks for your suggestions. The problem for this auto-tracing problem was solved by a good old reboot.
Cheers,
