I've inherited some channels that have the connections defined using the IP address. I want them to use the DNS so that I can sleep well at night. 
Not as concered with my regular old channels, but my cluster channels make me uneasy. Can I change "1.2.3.4" to "myserver.mycompany.com" without upsetting the apple cart?
We are using 5.2 on Solaris (WMQI Hub), Windoze, and mainframe.

Hmm... You are probably not going to want to hear this, but I don't think this is going to be easy. You could certainly fix the channels that you defined between each queue manager and the full repositories. However, any dynamic cluster channels that were created, for example to QM A, would have adopted the CONNAME attribute that was provided in the original cluster sender channel defined from the full repository to QM A, which in this case will still be an IP address. I don't believe they will automatically update. And since you can't use the ALTER CHL command on a dynamic cluster channel anyway, I'm not sure there is much you can do here other than remove each queue manager from the repository one by one and adding them back using the DNS names in their channels...

I was afraid of that answer. 
I was hoping there was an easy answer that could jumpstart my process of migration through environments. I guess I am stuck with playing around and seeing what will happen in Lab, then DEV, then QA, etc. I'm always looking for a shortcut.

Try change the CLUSRCVR channels CONNAME, and do a refresh cluster, this should change the sender channels aswell.
This is because all sender channels a created using the CLUSRCVR channels. The CLUSSDR is only used on the very first call to full cluster repository qmgr.

I do this as well.
Stop the explicit CLUSRCVR channel.
Stop all the dynamic CLUSSNDR that were pointing to that CLUSRCVR.
Make any changes you want to that CLUSRCVR.
Start the explicit CLUSRCVR.
Start all the dynamic CLUSSNDRs.
And now do a Properties check on all these dynamic CLUSSNDRs (not the explicit CLUSSNDRs). The dynamic CLUSSNDRs will now have your changes.
By dynamic CLUSSNDR, I mean the CLUSSNDR you see under QMNAME......Advanced...Cluster Queue Managers when you are in MQExplorer.
By explicit, I mean the channels you see under QMNAME...Advanced...Channels.
