Hello,
The quick beginnings manual for AIX lists amongst the prerequisites that the C/C++ runtime level should be 5.0.2.0 or higher. Is this really the case or a typo in the IBM documentation? Does anyone have 5.3 on AIX with a lesser runtime level? We have 4.0.2.0 on AIX 4.3 which probably wouldn't support 5.3. Any comments or experiences to the contrary?

More than anything else, this may not be a typo. Because quick beginnings guide is something that is like the very first step to MQ. It would have been thoroughly checked for any such typos.
IBM is no Microsoft... :)... Ooops hard comment.
Any ways. With my experience on AIX, i have noticed that AIX is very particular about versioning. And if anything is usually mentioned in the docs as pre-reqs, then that is it. You ought to go with it.
Cheers
