Dear MQ people,
Due to recent serious P1's described earlier in my other topics, we now need to upgrade one of our production structures from lev 4 to lev 5 to support con loss and SMDS offloading. My question is, can we simply do an alter CFSTRUCT etc to include new parameters for con loss, lev , offloading etc can this be done dynamically ( when the queue managers are running ) OR most of them have to be shutdown , one left up so that it may accept alter commands OR we do a back up, delete-define ?
Any inputs or links to documentations would be appreciated.
Dragos
PS: I know my latest posts seem messy and not detailed, under a lot of pressure, professionally and otherwise. |

As a minimum the coupling facility needs to be unused & empty (see here).
If it was me (and be very clear, it's you not me) I'd do it during a maintenance outage with the queue managers down. If you've had multiple P1's because of this and/or you have advice from IBM to make this chance, getting an outage authorized shouldn't be hard. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

What is IBMs recommendation on this upgrade? You did ask, didn’t you? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

Irrespective of IBM's recommendation, I'd still not do it in a hot environment.
It's not paranoia if they're really after you. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Wholeheartedly, and without reservation! One of my clients was too embarrassed to ask ibm for help. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

The knowledge Center says
Quote: |
You can only increase the value of CFLEVEL to 5 if all the queue managers in the queue-sharing group are at command level 710 or greater and have IBM WebSphere® MQ Version 7.1.0 new functions enabled with OPMODE.
You can decrease the value of CFLEVEL from 5 if all the queues that reference the CF structure are both empty, that is the queues, and CF structure have no messages or uncommitted activity, and are closed.
|
This implies, that just increasing the CFLEVEL does not require an unused and empty coupling facility. But decreasing the level and some other stuff (like changing RECOVER(YES) to RECOVER(NO) as shown behind the link you posted) needs an unused and empty coupling facility.
But I agree, one should do this in a maintenance window. _________________ Regards
