Hi,
My "work" e-mail ID is public on this forum, and also on the Vienna MQSeries list, and nowhere else. The last couple of weeks I've been getting virus affected e-mail (luckily all filtered out of course) daily, from half a dozen sources (nearly all hotmail accounts), with various subjects:
8250 share code
share friendship
some crap with love in
so I just delete it.
But is it just me, or has somebody hacked the mailing list here or in the Vienna one? Or I am just being justifiably paranoid on being singled out? |

Hello,
I use exclusively a private e-mail address when registering on web sites (like this one).
I always use the same hotmail address and I receive tens of spams and probably viruses every week. And (believe me ), no porn surfing or casino playing or other similar practices .
I cannot tell you where and how they find the e-mail address. Apparently there are lots of people dedicating time finding e-mail addresses. Several lists with millions of e-mail addresses are travelling in places well known by spammers and hackers.
2-3 weeks ago I have received in a two hours interval about 10 mails promoting free screensavers. The titles and origin were all different. I have learnt that they were part of a virus attack.
Of course, a good behaviour is to delete without reading all mails with an unknown originator.
My 2 eurocents... _________________ Nicolas Maréchal

I have noticed a large amount of these messages coming to brandon@mqseries.net. I suspect that someone's webcrawler came through and harvested all of our email addresses from the site. Either that, or someone who uses this site got infected by the virus, and we all happened to be in his contact book in Outlook, and so of course, we were the next targets... _________________ Brandon Duncan

I also receive lots of spam emails from being on the list server and other mail lists also.
I have recently bought "Spam Inspector" from giantcompany.com. It was very cheap, about $30. I find it filters out almost all the stuff I don't want. Most of it comes from korea with unreadable characters.
Every now and then it download's their latest DLL with all the rules in too... |
