I am running WMQI 2.1 for AIX (CSD04) and have discovered that a successful delta deploy of an Execution Group will also result in a deploy of changes to any Message Sets that belong to the same Broker in which the EG resides.

I had assumed (erroneously?) that, since the Message Set was assigned at a Broker level, a delta or complete BROKER deploy was required to promote Message Set changes.

Can anyone confirm or deny this experience? Any references in documentation as to what the expected behavior should be?

thanks.

This is how it works:
When you give a delta deploy request for an EG, the broker first checks for changed Message set and message flows within that EG. It will then deploy the changes for this EG only.
For example, consider a message set MSET1, which is used by a message flow MFLOW1 and MFLOW2. These message flows are deployed to 2 different execution groups, EG1 and EG2. Now, if you make a changes in MSET1 and do a delta deploy of EG1, Message flow MFLOW1 will see the updated message set (new changes). Message flow MFLOW2 will still have the older version of the message set.
If you want all EG's to have updated copy of MSET1, you have two options:
1. Delta deploy of Each EG.
2. Delta deploy of the broker.

I'd prefer option 1.

Kirani,

If I understood your reply, a message set is used by a message flow when you add in a compute node the message, is that right?

So, what would happen if I do a delta deploy of the EG with no message set associated to the EG? In my message flow I convert from MRM to XML, and viceversa, using the create statement with the PARSE option, so no association is needed.

Thanks in advance

Lillo,
It really doesn't matter whether you add your Message set to the compute node or you use CREATE statement with PARSE option, in either case you are using a message set in your message flow. Your message flow will fail If you don't add this message set to your Broker and do a delta deploy.
