I can successfully connect to an Oracle 11gR2 dB using the type4 jdbc connection (oracle.jdbc.thin driver)

but...

does IIB9 support connections using the type2 jdbc drivers (oracle.jdbc.oci drivers)?

I don't think so. Unless you can reference an IBM document where it says it does?
