The best route to a secure career:
- Develop a presentation on how to find a route to a secure career, write it into a book and go on the lecture circuit promoting your book.
Keep you comfortable until retirement.

Or if you prefer a more serious, technical answer:
- Neither
Both tracks will last only until The Next Big Thing is invented. Both IBM or Oracle could release Cloud Based Wibbly Wobbly Integrationistics at any moment. Then both the tracks you mention will go the way of mainframe COBOL.
And before people shout, "But there's still mainframe COBOL about - it's not completely dead! It's just mostly legacy maintenance stuff with a bit of new development", that's exactly my point.
