Does MQ restrict number of cluster or point to point channels to a particular number by default?
We have MQ at Version 7. |

There are near zero 'defausts' in mq. There are initial values that you may alter to meet your requirements.
The .ini files distributed with the product (Windoze and UNIX) have a maxchannels and maxactivechannels value of 100. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

we don't have SVRCONN/CLNTCONN channels in our environment.
We only have CLUSSDR/CLUSRCVR/SDR/RCVR/RQSTR channels.
So can we address this issue of MaxChannels reached by adding below stanza in qm.ini file.
CHANNELS:
MaxChannels=200
MaxActiveChannels=200
i think default value is 100 for UNIX environments. |

Well, of course, it depends on how many channels you need. Not having client connections does make things easier. It is much easier to predict how many connections you want from remote Queue Managers than how many applications 'may' connect. Having said that an MQ Cluster can be fairly dynamic.
You can err on the side of safety fairly readily though. MQ only consumes very little extra resources for a higher value of MaxChannels. It is, currently, an awkward value to change. It essentially requires a cycle of the Queue Manager. So, if 200 is 'plenty' then fine stick with that. Otherwise perhaps give yourself a little headroom and set it a little higher. As we all know, computer systems and networks tend to grow.
Cheers,
Paul. _________________ Paul Clarke
