Hello,

We are looking at a requirement for using the multi-instance queue manager feature with WMQ V 7.5 for AIX where there are multiple (say four) queue managers defined and running as active primary queue managers on the same AIX (primary) system. (We understand that this is not recommended and would be contradictory to almost anyone' best practice but at this point we have no choice for a variety of non-technical reasons.) We would like have one secondary queue manager automatically fail over (running as an active secondary queue manager on the second, secondary, AIX system) as a failover to its primary queue manager (which had failed on the first, primary, system) while the other (three) queue managers continue running uninterrupted as primary queue managers on the first (primary) AIX system. In this scenario we would end up with three primary queue managers running as active primary queue managers running on the initial (primary) AIX system and one active secondary queue manager running on the second (secondary) AIX system.

Is this possible?
What additional configuration considerations are involved?
Such as, placement of the mqs.ini file?
How would such configuration considerations be addressed?
At what level is data locked?
Does the locking occur at the disk level, directory level, file level, or some other level?

Thank you.

You can't have four primaries and one secondary.

You can only have four primaries and four secondaries.

The failover of any primary does nothing to cause the failover of any other primaries using the same file system, unless the reason for the failover is caused by a failure of the file system.

And there's no specific reason that any MI qmgr has to use the same shared file system as any other.
