What is the difference between COMPUTE and FILTER NODES ?

Try the MB Info center for basic doubts,

FYI .. The compute node can be used to create a new message or modify existing one, but the filter node cannot modify/create message. It is used mainly for routing message using the data in the incoming message or a DB.

A Java Compute Node is also a good alternative to either filter or ESQL.
