Is that a serious question? Inter-company gateways in a DMZ maybe? _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

I don't think this is a question ans forum. You should rather be sharing your understanding and let others refine/correct it. _________________ Regards

The answer to what? The best answer if you're asked this in an interview? The best answer to how to use multi-hopping in this theoretical topology you have in your head? The best answer on how to read the InfoCenter item you've correctly identified, which explains how it works? _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

This is broadly the same as your question here, and is formed from an adjacent section. If you're going to go down the InfoCenter and ask for an explaination of all the more complex theoretic concepts in small words and concrete terms we're going to be here a while.
You've clearly read the documentation, and initimate you've got some kind of test bed working. If you're looking for additional information, or guidence on how and where you'd use some of this stuff then:
a) accept that much of that knowledge comes from experience and running into a scenario which can only be fixed using it;
b) phrase your question in more specific terms and with some concrete basis.
For instance, show how you've established your multi-hop test bed and proved the messages multi hop through it. Then explain the points your either unclear on, or where you're looking for more information. Remember we have no context and no framework for you that you do not provide.
Better questions, better advice. Very few people here have the time, patience or mental inclination to re-post information which is publicly available in the InfoCenter. So you need to identify where you feel there's a gap in that information you want filled. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

You multi hop when your source Queue Manager and your Destination Queue Manager cannot or should not directly communicate, for a wide variety of reason, but they can be connected indirectly via one or more intermediate Queue Managers. _________________ Peter Potkay

Here's a multi-hopping parallel: you make a phone call to a friend miles away. Do you have a direct point-to-point connection? No. So, how does your phone connect to your friends phone? The call hops across one or more intermediary computers (electronic switches).
Back to your question:

The exact use in mq is the same as the phone call; namely: there is no direct, point-to-point connection; and the traffic (message, voice) must travel across one or more hops to get to its destination. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
