Hello,
I wonder if anyone has used pub/sub model to deploy app to mobile devices.
This seems to be a wild thought.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Deployment of fat clients to most mobile devices is required to be achieved through the OS platform marketplace feature (iTunes, et al).
Given that many applications do not need fat-client features, many applications are being developed using jquery, and other thin-client feature sets, which allow the operation of the client through a standard mobile web browser like Safari.
Therefore, the scenario you posed is not in common practice since the need for application distribution is handled through alternate means. _________________ http://leanpub.com/IIB_Tips_and_Tricks

Typically, app distribution is a heavy weight process, since the data being moved is large and the necessary post-install registration is usually complex.
But I'm quite sure that all of the mobile app install platforms out there are using pub/sub to provide update notification. |

Did the OP really mean 'app deployment' - as opposed to using messaging to send data to mobile apps?
Some commercial airlines have an LCD screen attached to the aircraft yoke (steering wheel) that displays information delivered as WMQ messages. That kind of data was previously send via voice radio.
I suppose the WMQ Client could be made to comply with iPhone or other smartphone platforms. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

If you just want to publish/subscribe data to a mobile device, that's mostly what http://www.mqtt.org/ is for.
I really think the OP meant application distribution, not data distribution. |

thanks for all the insight.
Yes, I mean users of mobile device request small apps by subscribing to a topic, which triggers the app to be distributed to the device whenever the device is online.
What I have in mind is for the administration of app deployment, for example in a car dealer network. there can be hundreds of users using the same company issued devices. Based the role of a user at any given time, certain app can be deployed to it using the pub/sub model, or pulled from the device (deactivate)
Most mobile apps are quite small, just a few MBs.
This should be possible though. Just wonder if anyone has done it before.
