On my corporate laptop, I have currently installed WMB6.1 Toolkit and WMB7 Explorer. When attempting to install WMB7 Toolkit I received the following error and the installation fails.
Quote: |
Containing directory could not be set for directory shortcut "IBM WebSphere Message Broker Toolkit" |
(the error displayed no error message number).
How should I go about solving this installation problem? |

I'd be tempted, myself, to ignore any errors involving shortcuts.
Otherwise, I'd look at changing the install location to a shorter path and to a path that did not have spaces in it. |

This error is hard to ignore since the installation fails as a result.
I have already tried selecting a shorter installation directory name but received the same error. The installer is apparently complaining about not being able to assign a shortcut to the containing directory (because it is already assigned to the WMB6.1 Toolkit?). |

It sounds like the installer is unable to create the folder that holds the set of shortcuts that broker installs.
You are running as an Admin, aren't you? Not just with higher privileges?
In general, Toolkit v7 should not be creating any links or shortcuts that would replace or overlap Toolkit 6.1 links. |

FWIW I've had the WMBv6.1 & WMBv7 Toolkits simultaniously installed and working on a single machine. So it's not a fundamental / structural problem. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I believe I currently have 6.0, 6.1, 7.0 and 8.0 coexisted.
toolkit and runtime.
Mind you, I'm not on Windows 7. |

I was. Which is why I speak with authority on how WMBv6.1, while not supported on Win7, runs on Win7. Apart from the times the runtime hangs, crashes, claims it's completed the deploy but continues to run the old version of the code and otherwise sits in a corner rocking backwards & forwards. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.
