Hi All,
We use WMB 7. We are looking at amending our database standards for WMB, and have the usual choices. In addition, we expect to try and see if we can use JPA2.0, and find out what characteristics it has (productivity for developers, performance constraints, transaction management, etc).
JPA can be run 'out of container' so we hope there isn't a technical reason it can't be done (unless someone on the forum can tell us differently!)
Does anyone have any prior knowledge of this that they might like to share?
There is a certain amount of overlap with the link below - ours is just another specific example:
http://www.mqseries.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=56597&start=0&sid=1c82ad59adfe84c3b481ac9c1311268f
We will be working on our prototype soon, but any early pointers / thoughts much appreciated.
As a quick addition:
- yes, we know we shouldn't have (much) business logic in the flow
- yes, we know database access may well slow us down
- yes, we know WMB isn't an application server |

Have not used the Java Persistence API libraries before, but am curious on how you are planning to do connection pooling (if any) and how you are planning on caching objects (if you are). You'll want to make sure you have these well-tested and well-understood by the development team if you are expecting the flows you're building to scale properly - this would probably be my main concern (outside of course of the dogma about object-relational mappings in general). |

I think you've hit the nail(s) on the head - we are worried about exactly these aspects, but want to see how far this path might lead us - and then try and break it!
Obviously we may be getting relatively little out of our use of a framework and approach if we 'de-fang' it too much.
Next step for me is more education on JPA etc...
Not sure what any Hursley types might think of the subject too...(hint, hint) |
