Hello,

I tried to install Websphere Message Broker 6.1 on Windows 7 professional. I am able to install broker, toolkit, DB2, MQ individually, but when I tried to do the default broker configuration, it gave me following error:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Task: Creating the database [DEFBKD61] for the default broker. failed
If you can manually fix the issues that caused this task to fail, do so and then click Yes.
If you click Yes, the wizard starts the task again.

If you click No, the wizard rolls back all completed tasks, if roll-back is possible.

To establish why the task failed, examine this wizard's log file which can be found in the workspace
directory [C:\Users\****\IBM\wmbt61\workspace\.metadata].
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have my installation manager upgraded, and I also used fix-pack to upgrade broker.

Using mqseries previous feedback, I also tried to create default database, but was declined by the user permission, I have already added user in Administration perspective in all domains.

I also tried to use "db2 drop database DEFBKD61, but this command is also giving me error SQL1092N, "User does not have the authority to perform the requested command.

I also used db2set DB2_GRP_LOOKUP = TOKEN and TOKENLOCAL, but still getting the same error.

I spent good amount of my time and unable to solve this issue. So, anyone who knows the answer, please let me know.

I appreciate your time and solution.

have you looked here http://www-01.ibm.com/software/integration/wbimessagebroker/requirements/#BrokersV61 to see if your Operating System is supported by this version of Broker?

So that's a clue.

This is another clue, telling you very much the same thing.

Guess what? This is yet another clue, telling you very much the same thing.

So you've got all this information, telling you that the user doesn't have permission to use DB2, you spend all this time trying to solve the problem (and presumably researching the error) and then you post in a Message Broker forum. Even though DB2 commands which have nothing to do with the broker software are telling you that there's a permission problem.

Why? Logically a DB2 forum would be more help. Or at least more related. And after all this time and research, you didn't discover that

doesn't help with DB2 authorisations any more than it helps with broker authorisations.

I also echo the comments of my associate about supported platforms. I also question the wisdom of installing WMBv61 when it's already reached the end of it's life.

Has it, then?

Odd that I didn't know.

Alright, yes, I accept that it's not actually reached the end of it's life. But it is middle aged, its retirement date has been annouced and for a new user learning the ropes (and you don't use the default configuration to add new members to an existing v61 estate) then v7 would IMHO be a better bet.

No, v6.1 does not have an announced EOS or EOM date yet.

Otherwise, yes, please use v7.

Really? Thought that it was going down with WMQv6.

Shows what I know...

WMB 6.1 even extends the effective life of DB/2 8.2 well beyond the grave (when used together).

Vitor,
Maybe you are thinking of WMB 6.0. That goes out of support April 30, 2011.

But WMB 6.1 has not announced a date yet for end of life. Since it went GA in June of 2008, it will be with us for at least a few more years. It gets a minimum of 5 years of support from its GA date.
