Go to Google. Type the following search string 'mq+distribution list example'.

Could be. Perhaps the OP is referring to a NameList.

Either way, google it.

I don't understand at all what "add the distribution list to mqm" means... mqm is a user or group. It's not a thing that can use a distribution list or a namelist.

If new_to_wmb8 is talking about something else entirely, there's no information to tell what.

My money is on a list of people in an Exchange or Lotus Notes distro list, and how to add them all into the mqm group.

But, its just a guess.

Had you researched this, you would have discovered that an MQ distribution list is NOT an MQ object. Rather, a DL an application programmer construct - an array of object-names and object-queue-manager names - used to send a message to multiple destinations.

As DL's are programmer constructs, you will need to make the application that uses the DL available on all qmgrs.

For many IT shops, a publish/subscribe implementation has replaced distribution lists.

What is an Exchange?

Have you researched DL's? What do you know about them? What will you use a DL for?

You mean you want to use your ActiveDirectory users and groups to provide users and groups to MQ so you can authorize them using MQ?

ActiveDirectory is an LDAP server.

Plenty of information in the KC about using LDAP.

Expect to work heavily with your ActiveDirectory Admins, or whoever knows the LDAP side of it.

I have no idea if Microsoft Exchange acts as an LDAP server if it's standalone.

Never add any users to the mqm group. use the appropriate mq commands to grant the needed priviledges, and the os level commands to allow users to become the mqm user for a period of time.
