I was looking to see if there is a requirement for MQ or a QMGR in regards to the amount of physical memory is required to run?
More specifically for AIX, or distributed platforms, and for WMQv6 and WMQv7.
Was looking for a way to determine this amount. |

Now a days Secondary Storage is getting cheaper , so as much as you got the storage in your system its good to keep it ( But be sure you have secondary storage backup as well to avoid any kind of disk failure or loss of data ).
On my local MQv7.0.1, on windows xp it takes 766MB space after installation.
And if you got good enough Random Access Memory ( at least 2GB RAM) then MQ Can work pretty well on Windows.
YOu can have a look at the IBM RedBooks/Infocenter about the configuration details too.

For MQ installation on how much space required depends on MQ components you install. This information is provided in prerequisite for AIX.
For space on logs and on q file system it depends on your requirements. Expected flow of messages and persistant messages and enqueue-dequeue rate of messages in queues and others... |

The OP's question was in relation to memory, NOT storage...
hin3407, the only advice I can offer is to base-line, i.e. create a 'vanilla' queue manager (on each platform and version) and see what the memory usage is. Bear in mind though that it will bear no relation to an 'active' queue manager servicing a lot of traffic, and with tuned buffer pages etc. I think you may be trying to nail jelly to the ceiling with this one. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |
