Having some issues with the Qmgr on Iseries unable to start a new channel. It seems once 100 Channels are reached it cannot open anymore. Looking in the infocenter for Version 6 I see this stated:
MaxChannels=100|number
You can still use this stanza, but it is now ignored. Your system resources are the only constraint on the number of channels you can define.
Looking in the qm.ini file for that qmgr I do not see a MaxChannels defined at all. If I add it with a number larger than 100 will it accept this or is there some other parameter that needs to be changed to increase this as it is obviously only going to 100.
Iseries MQ version 6.0.2.8. |

You have essentially 2 parms : MaxChannels and MaxActiveChannels...
By default the upper boundary for MaxActiveChannels is MaxChannels (IIRC). So I'd say up you MaxChannels stanza, bounce the qmgr and see if it works for you... _________________ MQ & Broker admin |

Which would be odd, since as the OP says, this clearly says:

So at least there's a possible PMR against the documentation... _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

But although the MaxChannels is ignored, is it possible that the 'default' MaxActiveChannels is being honoured? _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

No, it says:
"...You can still use this stanza, but it is now ignored..."
As was also pointed out by Vitor, and by you in the original post. My suggestion is, if you think (or are sure) that without the stanza in the qm.ini file you are hitting the 'default' limit, that you raise a PMR. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |

Please look at the link it says the MaxChannels is ignored not that MaxActiveChannels is ignored. _________________ "The Beard made me do it!!!" |

It states:
"...The maximum number of channels allowed to be active at any time. The default is the value specified on the MaxChannels attribute..."
Hence my question in my first post: But although the MaxChannels is ignored, is it possible that the 'default' MaxActiveChannels is being honoured?
The implication is that if MaxChannels is ignored, that the MaxActiveChannels will be also unless it is specifically set, i.e. if no MaxActiveChannels stanza is set then the only limitation is system resources. _________________ It's puzzling, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like this before...and it's hard to soar like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys. |
