We currently have a WMB V5.0 instance. We are trying to install a WMB V6.1 Instance on the same machine. When the setup.aix was done a new path for the binaries was specified but a new work path was not specified. If you look in the V5.0 work path, /var/mqsi, the install.properties file specifies the WMB V6.1 instance. Is there a way to fix this without uninstalling V6.1? The V6.1 mqsiprofile script shows the MQSI_WORKPATH as the V5.0 workpath,/var/mqsi not the V6.1 workpath of /var/mqsi61. We have not created a Config Manager or Broker yet. Can we just run mqsicreateworkpath and update the mqsiprofile for V6.1?

If we uninstall V6.1, will this effect the V5.0 instance?

Thanks.

Hi,
so far i know both installations will share the same workpath /var/mqsi.

At least they do for my parallel installation of 6.0 and 6.1

Did the 5.0 installation have a install.properties file before the installation of 6.1 ?

Greetings
Frank

Typically you would want your V5 and V6.1 installations to share the same workpath. This allows you to migrate a V5 component to V6.1 (and vice versa in theory.) You could in principal create another workpath for V6.1, but I don't know where you would stand in terms of support: mqsicreateworkpath is not documented. May I ask what the reason is for wanting a separate workpath? It may be that there is a better way to achieve your goal.

jugo,

Once we have migrated and tested all of the flows in V6.1 we are going to remove the V5.0 install. My concern was that the uninstall of V5.0 will blow away the /var/mqsi contents. Maybe this is not a valid concern but I was not sure, so I thought it was best to "play it safe" and use a different workpath for V6.1.

Uninstalling V5 will not remove /var/mqsi or any of its contents. However it would be good practice to do a backup anyway - both now and just before you remove it.

It is worth carefully reading the migration guide. Although not the most interesting read, it will give you the best chance of a successful migration.
