I ponder the relative value of rcdmqimg/rcrmqobj?

It seems to me that important objects should be recorded some place other than the logs. This is especially true if you are recording the contents of a queue that contains a large number of big messages.

Given the issues with lost/damaged/deleted logs posted here, and this issue of a long-ago created log that might be required if recovery is needed, seems to me to be a reason not to use rcdmqimg/rcrmqobj.

Queue contents backup and object definition backup might be better accomplished with stand-alone app programs or utilities to disk/tape - saveqmgr, for example.

I see the point you're making - question for another thread perhaps?

I suppose... But I feel strongly that logs should be used for app UofW's (and the other stuff that MQ uses logs for.

I suspect that the general misunderstanding of the risk-benefit of using the log for storing other stuff led to the original post.

Let me just point out that saveqmgr(c) and linear logs have a completely different objective.

Saveqmgr(c) is to allow you to recreate the qmgr objects.

Linear logs will allow you to repair a damaged object (queue) and recover at the same time the objects on it. If you can't use object recovery you may loose data, unless the apps can determine what data is missing and request for another copy... from the sender...

P2P this looks very simple. It gets a little bit more complicated when you talk pub/sub...

Have fun
