Is the license cost for MQ a yearly expense, or is it a one time fee? I know we pay a yearly maintenence fee, but is that also for the license? _________________ Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. - The Dude |

Most software is a 1 time license charge with a reoccuring annual maintenance fee.
But license costs are like plane tickets - the odds of 2 people sitting side by side getting the same deal are slim to none. Asking anyone other than the IBM sales rep for your account or your company's people in charge of assests is probably not relevent. _________________ Peter Potkay

When you visited the WMQ website and searched for this, what did you discover? _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.

What I discovered, Bruce, was a hodgepodge of nonsense about value units, cpu's and cores.
I get the fact that the license cost is not a fixed number for us all. I'm just trying to pass on to one of our business groups whether or not the $37,000+ license cost for their 800 value unit quad-core is going to be a one time cost or not.
I have a call in to our vendor, but I just thought I'd ask here to see if I could get a generic anwser - like PeterPotkays' - that said yes, it's a one time license cost plus yearly maintence.
Thanks for the quick reply Peter.
Thanks for chiming in, Bruce, with another of your many helpful answers! _________________ Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man. - The Dude |

I detected a bit of sarcasm...
What you discovered is that acquiring software is not at all like going to a bookstore and buying a book - a one-time purchase. Rather, a variety (or hodgepodge) of other considerations influence the license cose and the total cost of ownership.
If nothing else, you porbably discovered that WMQ for z/OS costs a few dollars more than WMQ for Windows.
Since your original post did not offer any clue as to what you had already discoverd about licences, I nudged you towards IBMs license webpages.
Appologies if that annoyed you. _________________ I like deadlines. I like to wave as they pass by.
