Hi there,

I have a very simple query linked to Heartbeat &/or Keepalive mechanisms.

I have an MQ client application running on a system. The queue manager is running on a separate system, and there is a firewall in-between. The firewall drops the open connections after 1h of inactivity.

My question is the following one: is it possible through MQ configuration to have heartbeats sent by the MQClient to the MQServer on a regular basis, just to keep the line opened?

Thanks & regards

Yes.

Great news ... so second question is raised: how can I achieve this?

What MQ versionn is the MQ Client and the MQ Server?

Then do a search on Heartbeat in the correct MQ InfoCenter:

MQ 6
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv6/v6r0/index.jsp

MQ 7
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv7/v7r0/index.jsp

When Heartbeats flow for MQ Clients is slightly different betwen the versions.

Worst case at MQ 6 you can code the app to MQINQ against a queue every few minutes to guarantee network traffic.
