Tell your app teams to use MQOO_FAIL_IF_QUIESCING and more importantly MQGMO_FAIL_IF_QUIESCING.

If you're going to post links to the documentation, post links to the IBM version, not a mirror of unknown age and reliability.

Or just advise the poster to look at the top of this page!

When you'll open the link, it'll show the IBM Corp. reserved rights at the very bottom of the page.

And the fact they've admitted IBM hold the copyright gives no indication of how often the State Government of North Carolina updates their copy of the IBM docs in the event of corrections.Given the copyright you so proudly point to is 7 years in the past.

And there's no indication the page if it's v5.3 docs, v6 docs or v7 docs!

Use the IBM version!!!

I did, and saw: © IBM Corporation 1994, 2002. All Rights Reserved

My esteemed master's point being that that piece of information may be well out of date, and that wherever possible the IBM site should be quoted - straight from the horses mouth as it were.

A qmgr will not gracefully (controlled) until all all apps have disconnected. A common newbie cause is leaving a c: or $ prompt open with runmqsc running.

The list of process names and the order to kill them appears to be the information for version 5.3. If you were running MQ version 6 or 7 you'd want to get the updated list from the IBM documentation as suggested above.

This is not a recommended way to shutdown a qmgr. Consider this as a last resort.

You have other problems if your qmgr doesn't end with a -c (controlled) or -i (immediate) or -p (preemptive) shutdown.

Can't remember the -c option but definitely remember the -w (wait) option...

-c is default. I type it out of (good) habit.
