Hi,

We are upgrading our WMQ from 6.0 to 7.0 on Windows platform.

This needs to be done on many windows machines. Hence, we want to automate the procedure for migration on windows. The following are high-evel steps that we want to use to migrate. ( we have a WMQ Clustered environment)

1. Check if any queue manger is in cluster
2. if any queue manager is in cluster, suspend the queue manager.
3. Stop all queue managers
4. Stop listeners for all qmgrs
5. Take backup of qmgr log directory and queue manager directory and registry.
6. Install WMQ 7.0
7. Start all queue maanger
8. Start Listeners
9. For all queue managers in cluster, Resume the queue manager which were suspended in Step-2 above.

We want to automate Step 1 to Step 5 and also Step 7 to Step 9. I am quiet new to using scripts on windows. Can any one please suggest as to if "DOS Batch Programming" is sufficient. Are there any alternatives? any ideas?. We are not keen to use any new tools because this might require the software to be installed on all windows machines where we need to install WMQ.

Thanks,

I'd point out that if you're using listener objects as recomended, they don't need to be controlled separately to the queue manager, saving you a step.

Depending on the batch capabilities of whatever you're using to take the backup, I'd say a Windows script would be the easiest thing.

Slightly off topic, but whatever method you apply IMHO you should upgrade the FRs of your cluster first. It's not wrong to have v7 PRs in a cluster with v6 FRs, but it adds an extra level of safety for the cost of a little scheduling.

Your decision of course. Like I said, ought to work either way.
