Hi,

I found this in the manuals:

Code:
To restart a queue manager, type:

strmqm saturn.queue.manager
...
If the queue manager restart takes more than a few seconds WebSphere MQ will issue information messages intermittently detailing the start up progress.
...

For me restart implies- all changes needing a restart of the queue manager take effekt.
A new defined listener with CONTROL(QMGR) starts only if I stop and start a queuemanager.
Changing SCMDSERV from MANUAL to QMGR has no effect until I stop and start the queue manager

What is the difference between
"Starting a queue manager" and "Restarting a queue manager"
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wmqv6/v6r0/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.mq.amqzag.doc/fa10800_.htm

Thanks
Gunter

In this context, starting a queue manager means starting it for the 1st time, restarting means the 2nd & subsequent times. There is a difference in processing, noteably accessing the logs.

It's also true that on a restart there may be additional processes kicked off (like the listener in your example). But it's seldom the case you need to restart the queue manager to pick up changes. Staying with your example, you can define a listener under the queue manager's control and it will start and stop with the queue manager. That doesn't mean you have to bounce the queue manager to start the listener.

according to the documentation very little.
If you look in the "starting a qmgr" section it really talks about starting it for the first time after creation. The "Restarting a qmgr" section does not talk about first time start...
