Is there some formulary/method to determine what resources are used per MQ client connection. Our queue managers run on linux servers. I'd like to understand how many connections we can reasonably expect to support with our current setup.

Each connection will use some memory (a few K?) and a TCP socket. It should be possible to run several thousand, but you are likely to hit system resource limits (TCP stack, network, CPU, etc) before MQ will give up. Look at the MQ performance report SupportPac for your platform and MQ version.
