I am led to believe that AIX has an operating system now at something like 5.3 which has an option of both a 32bit system kernel and a 64 bit one and you choose whichever. Does anybody know whether MQSeries cares about the underlying architecture for these kernels as the normal one for AIX is 32 bit. I assume that the software will demote the situation to 32 bit but need verification.

Latest AIX is 5.1 CSD02. We are running MQ 5.2 under this on a 64-bit P690 using the 32-bit kernel, and are about to move to MQ 5.3. I believe we have to use the 32-bit kernel because we have a legacy application that precludes use of the 64-bit kernel. However in general 32-bit and 64-bit applications can co-exist and run under the 64-bit kernel. This is confirmed in a number of publications. MQ 5.3, if installed under 32-bit, has a couple of pre-req PTFs, but otherwise it appears the use of 32- or 64-bit kernel is transparent to MQ.
