A question about characterSet

I read from the IBM document that characterSet has the following values:

Code:

850
commonly used ASCII codeset
819
the ISO standard ASCII codeset
37
the American EBCDIC codeset
1200
Unicode
1208
UTF-8

But I read some programs that other charaterSet are used such as 1252, 437 etc.

What does this mean?

MQ supports applications to use a wider range of charcater sets than the ones you mentioned
