Hello,

I am trying to configure a DSN to an Oracle user database using the ODBC drivers supplied with WMB v7- x86-64, without installing the Oracle client at all .

I am not sure why, but when I check the db configuration (for the db I want to connect to) in tnsnames.ora file in other servers, it specifies multiple address lists, which means multiple host names and port numbers for a given tnsnames entry. (I am thinking there are multiple instances running for load balancing).

Now, the sample odbc.ini format in <WMBv7 install loc>/ODBC/V6.0 specifies the DSN format to connect to a non RAC Oracle database which I want to use. But this has only only option each for hostname, port and SID.

Is there some way to specify multiple hostnames and ports for a DSN in odbc.ini?
Or Can I use the WMB v6 format of defining a DSN after installing the Oracle client.

P.S.: Multiple hostnames and ports are mandatory due to the volume of db transactions.

Thanks,
Kar.

Well, the DataDirect ODBC driver documentation here:
http://media.datadirect.com/download/docs/odbc/allodbc/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm

says that other options like ServerName is possible (which maps to a tnsnames.ora entry).
I have to verify that practically though.

I will keep digging to check if there is a way to specify multiple port numbers..sigh..

What you most likely have here is an oracle RAC. Check with your DBA's as to what is appropriate.

The sample ODBC ini for OracleRAC includes an Alternate* set of parameters.

Thanks for your responses.

The database in not RAC. It simply has multiple listeners configured on same server for failover (I misread that as multiple hostnames).

I anyway used the AlternateServers entry in the non-RAC stanza and it works, failover and all

So as far as constructing DSN stanzas are concerned, it looks like the best source of info is the DataDirect online library. But I think its better to check with IBM first and test well.
