I have had a good look around for information on licencing MQ and can't find much that is clear. Is there any webpage, or document that spells it out clearly? Should I really be talking to a rep?

My particular curcumstance is running a server on a Win2003 server and connecting to it using client processes on several other Win2003 servers. Do I need a server license only or are client licenses required as well?

thanks for any pointers
regards

Yes.

MQ Clients are free.

For MQ Server licensing, see this. No prices, but at least you can figure out how many you need:

Except for the Extended Transactional Client?

IIRC the java part of the ETClient has moved to the general distribution (resource adapter). Don't know how this plays for the other language ETC.
Best consult your IBM rep if you need it to make sure you are in licensing compliance.
