Folks..
I would like your input on this question. We are in the process of building an automated process to import and export fdl. Why, Well in our company only the Workflow admins have the ability to logon to the AIX server and run the FMCIBIE utility. Our current process allows a developer to place an FDL file on a NT share and then email the Workflow admins. As you may have already figured out, this is a time consuming task for the Workflow admins. So here is my question?
I would like to create a Workflow process model that will invoke a PEA / PES activity to start the FMCIBIE utility and import the fdl. Let me know what you think? _________________ Dave Krier

Dave:
Sounds like a plan to me....
I see no reason why this should not work. You have a simple process one maybe two activities, that is fired off via an XML message from your developer. In the source you have the name of the fdl to import, and possibly an email address to send the results of the import command.
GOOD LUCK, and keep me posted on how this works out for you. _________________ John McDonald

To satisfy your requirement, I think it is just enough to install Run time database utilities at developer workstations. They should be able to import FDLs to runtime from their workstation( Never tried it, but think it works).

That's exactly what we are doing right now (re NT share) and that's exactly what we are planning to do (workflow process to import). The only difference is we are planning on web-client instead. Ofcourse we need to have runtime DB utiliies on the web-client box.

It works.
But it really depends on whether or not you want to do this. Then the developers would have the latitude of deleting everything in the runtime.
