Hi All,

What's the best way of working out how to tune the Kernel config? In 'quick beginnings for Linux' it says;

"The default configuration of these resources, supplied with your installation, is probably adequate for WebSphere MQ but if you have a large number of queues or connected applications, you might need to increase this configuration."

How do you work out how much to increase these semaphore values by? Is there a 'formula' or something, or just give it as much as your system resources allow? We have 100's of queues.

Thanks.

Man

Try this.This will work for 100 plus queues.

SHMMAX: 33554432
SHMMNI: 128
SHMALL: 4194304
SEMMNI: 128
SEMMSL: 250
SEMMNS: 32000
SEMOPM: 32

- The value of the kernel parameter "SEMMSL" should be set to at least
100. This is the maximum number of semaphores per set.

Once you have obtained the software, cd to directory MQV6 which contains a script called kernelcheck. Running this will check the kernel settings for the relevant operating system level. If the script determines that some settings are insufficient (or if it cannot determine) it will create file /tmp/userid/kernel.info which contains sample commands to set the appropriate kernel values
