How do you install the IBM supplied MQ Explorer program on an NT 4.0 workstation? I have the server and client CD for v5.2. Which one? What options on setup?

Thanks.

The MQExplorer comes as part of the MQServer only. You must install the full MQSeries server product in order to get the MQExplorer tooling.

The setup will check pre-requisites for the installation. Typically on NT workstations you will need to install the Microsoft Management Console application if you do not have it yet. The application is stored in the "Prereqs\MMC" folder of the MQ server CD.

Can I install the MQNT Explorer on my NT Workstation and connect to my Linux MQServer ? Do I have to install the complete MQServer Series Package on my NT Workstation or just the MQNT Explorer ?

Thanks in advance

Yes you must install MQServer to get the Explorer (read postings above).
You also have to create the channel "SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN" if this doesn't exist on the linux qmgr.

I have SYSTEM.ADMIN.SVRCONN defined, channel listener started but get - Access not authorized. You are not authorized to perform this operation. AMQ4036.

I know I can code a valid authorized user in MCAUSER on the SYSTEM ADMIN.SVRCONN . But in effect I'm throwing away any real security , am I not. Doesn't any MQExplorer then have access? Is there a way that I can better control access to the Linix Q-MGR and still use MQexplorer? What kind of userid is Win2K/MQ passing in this case?

The other ways you can do it:

1) Create a user ID on the Win2K side that is the same as the Linux authorized ID and logon to Win2K using that. But again, anyone can do this if they know what they're doing;
2) Write a channel security exit
