For media recovery the number of log files required is too high. It takes up around 1GB.

When does this happen?

Is it related to the persistent messages in the queues.

Another queustion is the SYSTEM.CHANNEL.SYNCQ has messages as old as Apr 2003. Why would this be required?

When you've not taken a new image? I'm assuming you mean that the file referred to as necessary is an old one so you're retaining a lot of logs which in turn take up 1Gb

Not for media recovery. That's the other log file the queue manager mentions.

Sentimental reasons?

Are there large numbers of these? Is the size causing a problem? Are you having channel issues? If not, I'd be inclined to leave well enough alone.

IIRC they contain status information - I had a channel PMR way, way back & we cleared it on the advice of IBM. I remember they said "make sure you've got a backup before you do the delete".

A passing IBMer may have better information.
