Hi ppl,

Need a way to capture MQ traffic.

I have a MQ server and a number of MQ clients connect to my server.

What i need to do is to capture all the MQ traffic that goes through the MQ server.

Can I do it using a sniffer such as ethereal/wireshark.?

Is there any other possible means(any tools).

I cannot modifiy ANYTHING on MQSERVER or the client.

Any help on this would be a life saver and one more thing time is crictical.

What do you mean, you can't change anything on the server or the client?

You can only use a network sniffer if your channels aren't using SSL.

Otherwise, you're probably out of luck. Any other option you have would require that you restart the qmgr.

But I'm sure, that since this was urgent, you've spent the last few hours digging and searching around on your own, and come to the same conclusion.

What information are you actually trying to capture?

What kind of situation is it that you're trying deal with?

If it's *urgent*, as you say, you should be able to stop or pause things enough to see what you're looking for.

It's not clear what you mean when you say that the network analyzer didn't show the traffic. Maybe you mean that it didn't make the traffic look pretty - but if it's really watching the network interface, then it should have captured the traffic.

first off...thanx for the reply jefflowrey

what i am trying to do is to capture the MQ message flowing thru a MQ server. Now its all prodcution and i cant restart the qmgr or put in exits or anything of that sort.

So my only chance is to capture the MQ messages if i use a network sniffer like ethereal since it supports MQ protocol aswell ..but i put the sniffer on...it capture the traffic but shows as TCP , now this is as expected but ethereal also captures and displays MQ traffic. But for some reason I am not able to see it .

So at this point I am open to any suggestions u have that can help me capture the MQ messages. I am quite suprised that IBM doesn't have ANY tools that can do this without touching the qmgr.

In any case thanx for ur help and replies.

I think you are looking for the impossible. If your application is not capable of fully logging what it is getting or putting then there is no magic in MQ.

Go look up SupportPac MA0W or MirrorQ.
