Hi All,

Can someone help me as how to write a script which can monitor a sender and receiver channel as well as Qmgr using java.

Use MS0B. That's your free advice.

Also, don't waste your time writing your own monitoring tools. Buy professional tools. Or use existing, free choices.

We only need to monitor the queues,channels and qmgr only. I think it's not worth to buy a tool worth thousands. So,was just looking for some ideas as how to monitor these MQ objects.

You can't say it's not worth the money, without doing more analysis than you appear to have done.

You can't say how much it will COST you to develop your own solution, and maintain it, and get it to the point where you TRUST it, without doing more analysis than you appear to have done.

How much money does the company stand to lose right now, without any monitoring, when something breaks? What's the worst case? What's the average case?

How much time will an averagly competent programmer spend, to write the monitoring program you need? The last time I had to do this for a client, I spent a week. And that was with extremely minimal requirements, and the resulting program had absolutely no features for robustness built in - like notifying anyone that it was shutting down.

I also knew what I was doing, and what the code needed to do.

How often is the program going to have to change for one reason or another? How much time is it going to take, on average, to make those changes?

How many weeks of testing and trials is it going to take to prove out the system, before it can be said to reasonably reduce the risks of not knowing that something has gone wrong?

How many qmgrs do you have? How many queues? How many channels? how many platforms?

What information, like performance metrics, will you get from a professional tool, in ADDITION to the monitoring and alert you want? What is the value of that additional information, versus the loss faced by not having it?

How much time & effort will be saved by using a professional monitoring tool that also performs remote MQ administration? How much improvements in IT change processes will result? What additional security, and auditing could you get? How much value does that bring to the business?

How much will it cost you (in lost business) if there's a problem? How much will you spend finding and fixing it?

Jeff,Thanks a lot for your brilliant incision deriving thoughts from which helps average resources like me to face the mgmt.
We have just 1 Qmgr ,2 channels and 10 queues.So,we are thinking of writing our own scripts using pcf java classes.

There's no such thing as an "average resource"; it's an illusion created by project management handbooks. Like "cost effective decision making".

Or indeed "informed decision making".
