Hi,
In MQ 5.3 we had our log file settings set to the maximum size of 64mb and 40 primary and 20 secondary.
As I understand it, the overhead in starting a new log file is considerable so to make it less of an issue larger log files are recommended, so they are created less frequently.
With MQ 6.0 it's now possible to have 256mb log files, these seem pretty large to me and I'm wondering whether the time it would take MQ to create a secondary log file would be too long during heavy processing..
Does anyone have any suggestions or is the recommendation of 'largest is best' still hold?
The platform is Windows BTW
Cheers

It sounds like this may be of some concern, but of course it would depend on the machine speed, number of CPUs, overall system load at the time, etc. With these variables, I'm not sure there is a definite answer to your question. _________________ IBM Certified MQSeries Specialist

I believe this holds true for the Win platform only as it seems harder to limit the use of the file system to MQ...
On Unix you just mount your FS at /var/mqm, or where you need it, and you do not have to worry about having already created log files. I have not seen any significant problem/performance slow down with creating a new log file...
