Hi,
We are planning to setup a load-balanced, failover broker environment on our aix boxes. before i start doing that i thought of putting forward my thoughts and get some expert comments back on this idea.

1) two gateway qmgrs in an mq cluster 1
2) two broker qmgrs qm1 and qm2 on two diff boxes in an mq cluster 2.
3) two brokers , brk1 and brk2 on those two boxes using HACMP
4) each broker having it's own database
5) qmgr, broker and database will be grouped as shared resource (i guess so, not sure how to do it though!)

we also have a few flows where the message order matters. is there a way that i can include such flows in this cluster without causing issues? or should i deploy them to just one broker , for safe side and easier way?

You should really try and design this out - it's called "message affinity" and has been the subject of some discussion. It does make load balancing almost impossible, for reasons that you've discovered.

thanks for the reply:)
i tried to search on 'message affinity' but mopst of the topics discuss about coding, and not administration. anyways, apart from the message affinity point, does every thing else sound good to you? i just want to confirm that i'm on the right path to setup a high available cluster environment. plz let me know ur valuable feedback guys!

You set up looks sane to me. However if you want active/active load balancing you will need 2 qmgrs/brokers per HACMP box. (1 active 1 fail over) a different one being active on each box...

Have fun...

If you have a lot of client applications, I'd add a network load balancer between the clients and those gateway qmgrs.

If you don't have a lot of client applications, then... you won't be able to do that so never mind.

Recently we have installed & configured similar configuration using HACMP. Here is our configuration:

Two LPARs with MQ Gateway Queue Managers - Active/Standby via HACMP

Two LPARs for Message Broker with mutual takeover via HACMP - where on one LPAR we created a resource group comprising config manager with a queue manager & Broker 1 with its queue manager, on another LPAR created Broker 2 with its own queue manager.

1 MQ Cluster - Gateway queue manager, config manager qm & broker qm's

Hope this helps.
