1) Take precautionary backup of queue manager.
2) Obtain v6 media from IBM
3) Read migration guide supplied
4) Follow steps in migration guide
5) Test v6 queue manager
Do you have any more specific questions? If so, please post what version of v5 you're migrating from .
But it's about as easy as the 5 steps I've outlined. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

There's a thread going in here someplace discussing the need to uninstall the old version first. IMHO it's unnecessary, but clearly causes no harm if you do, and may be considered nicer / cleaner / better.
If you do decide to uninstall, take a backup (as I suggested) using saveqmgr and restore the objects post-upgrade. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

Hi
Eventhough if you un-install the product the queues and qmgr directories will not be get deleted.
For the safer side take the back up of the mq objects using saveqmgr tool.
Thanks and Regards

Not necessarially true on all Unix platforms. Pro-active backup, in this case using the tool we've both recommended, is always safest. _________________ Honesty is the best policy.

I never installed MQ on unix.
I think working directory /var/mqm has to be created unlike Windows C:\program files\IBM\WebsphereMQ
But after installation on Unix, is /var/mqm is populated or do we have to create folders like
/var/mqm/errors
/var/mqm/qmgrs.(ofcourse empty) etc etc
Or is it empty after installation. |

Yes this is true on all Unix platforms - the uninstall does not touch the queue managers, on Windows you are given the choice.
However you should as a matter of good practice take a back up of /var/mqm. _________________ Philip Morten
