Hi all,

I'm looking for information on competitive analysis between WebSphere and SAP Netweaver in terms of SOA perspective.

I think both WebSphere and Netweaver provide complete offerings in this area,
but I'm not sure about criteria how I can approach the complication?
How can I approach SAP users, who are considering SOA?
WMB(WESB)+WebSphere Adapter?, JCo application working on WAS or Netweaver???

Thanx

You'd have to compare the full offering of SAP vs WMB and it's advantages...

So you'll have to look at the SAP XI stack as well.

As to how to integrate SAP with any message transformation this is a business requirement you'll have to investigate some before proposing any technical solution path...

Enjoy

I'm sure they'll help in showing why WebSphere is better... but I remember looking at this once and it boiled down to cost - licensing of SAP Netweaver is very pricey when integrating outside of SAP as compared to using WebSphere.

Also between you and I - I think the process server/ESB w/ the JCA adapters are better for integrating into SAP.

Thank you for your helpful suggestion, ashoon.

There're always the pros and cons.
WESB is good for standard based integrations as many standard technologies, for example WS-*, are bundled and they work on J2EE engine.
Additionally, it is good in terms of cost (because the price of the two IBM ESBs are completely different).

However, I have two technical problems when I consider WESB w/JCA SAP adapter.
One is batch integrations(ex. file transfer) and the other one is SAP outbound synchronous transactions.
Huge file transfer is a problem with WESB because the product doesn't expect such busy traffic, which requires lots of heap memory, and, in my understanding, WESB only supports XML based messages. How can I cope with that?
In addition, regarding JCA SAP adapter, 'RFC Server' is not supported but non-JCA adapter (WBIA for SAP).
So there's currently no way to handle SAP outbound synchronous transactions with WebSphere JCA Adapter for SAP.

No but you can use the JCO adapter and serialize the Idoc into an XML document...

Enjoy

Skill sets are a problem when we directly use JCo because it requires Java skills.
In some cases, WMB and WebSphere Adapter engineers are not familiar with Java. (ex. WMB only requires ESQL skills.)
Engineers for WESB, J2EE based product, are OK because they should be familiar with Java world.

BTW, I think one advantage of WebSphere Adapter for SAP is that it is a product certified by SAP.

Thanx
