I heard a rumor that the JNDI namespace may now be defined on a queue (as an alternative to being on a file system or an LDAP). Can anyone comment on this?

But this is a really bad idea. In my opinion.

JNDI is a registry. It's designed to allow for a separation between applications logical resource naming and physical resource naming.

Using the queue manager as the JNDI registry means that you've eliminated that separation.

Not to mention the fact that it requires the use of queues for long term storage of data.

Maybe wschutz can be convinced to modify ms03 to produce a file context output.

My understanding of the question is little different, so I am gonna answer it anyway
You can build the JMS format queues to point to real queues inline.
For example,
queue:///QUEUENAME
or
queue://QMGRNAME/QUEUENAME
or
queue:///QUEUENAME?targetClient=1 etc
