Hi, I recall reading somewhere that there is a command line exe which can be used to do some MQ related functions (Sorry for being vague). My question is, does such an app exist which will allow me to query queue status?
I don't remember where I saw mention of it unfortunately...

Cheers
Ian

Well the command line exe is runmqsc, which performs MQ related functions. It really depends what you mean by "functions" and "queue status" - queue is there, queue is not there, queue is full, queue is empty, queue is a gorilla, what?

(Your queue turning into a gorilla is a rare but alarming event )

Try the System Admin guide (or equivalent)

I'll have to warn the admin's, the gorilla issue might explain the large number of banana thefts in the office recently

Initially I was trying to get MQCMD_INQUIRE_Q_STATUS to work, basically I'm interested in queue statistics we can use to monitor the status of the queues. Help us identify hung applications for example. I'll look up the docs for runmqsc

Cheers

Or either your operatations staff or your BAs have learned how to get a door open....

If you're looking for monitoring, you might also want to research events and depth triggers, both of which can be used for this and are potentially more effective than scripting or external apps.

Also if you don't want to reinvent the wheel, you can obtain this functionality from "whatever-the-Candle-Command-Centre-is-called-these-days", Tivoli, QPasa & it's colleages, etc, etc, etc.

We have traps down for the BAs

Right now a third party solution is looking mighty tempting

So have we, and that has nothing to do with fruit of any kind.

May I draw your attention to the "Monitoring and Tools" section of this forum? The usual wealth of advice and a good place to ask the question "which wheel is best" perhaps.
