Messages are coming from a queue manager and the data is in French. The messages are being received on a queue manager that uses English (and must remain so). The data in the French messages is getting converted to English (or so say the developer), but the data actually needs to remain in French.
I *think* the only fix for this is for the sender to set the CodedCharSetID in the message. Is this correct?
Yes, I searched here and yes, I looked at three IBM manuals. But I did it pretty quickly cause I wasn't even sure what to look for. Feel free to refer me to different search terms or give me a clue as to which manual I should be reading. Or maybe.... which manual the developer should be reading?
Thanks so much,

The application data component of your message will only be converted if: the sender channel convert attribute is specified; or the getting application specifies convert in the MQGET options (MQGMO).
Have the getting app developer read the Application Programming Reference for MQGMO. Have the sysadmin at the French sending qmgr read the MQSC manual, the Intercommunications Guide for channel definitions and attributes. |

So, do you mean... that in the absence of the two situations you mention, the data would not be converted.
Is it possible that the data is, in fact, still in French -- but the display of the data at the receiving end is in English due to the CSID of the receiving queue manager?
I am so out of my league here, I apologize if my questions are goofy. |

Unless you explicitly ask for conversion (one of the two methods), the application data component will remain in the ccsid of the sender.
Does the sender channel specify CONVERT?
Does the getting app specify MQGMO_CONVERT?
Most likely what you are seeing is whatever utility you are using at your end doesn't understand French and can't successfully display it. Quel domage. How are you looking at the messages?
"The data in the French messages is getting converted to English (or so say the developer), but the data actually needs to remain in French." Hmmm. |

You are absolutely right...
The data does not get converted from one language into the other. That feature can only be in a conversion exit and would be a pretty poor translation over what a licenced translator would do....
Now the French character set is typically 850 (on PC) and the English one (437)....
My guess is that the CCSID of the 2 qmgrs are different and the message may not have the format set to 'MQSTR '.
Make sure the format of the message is set to MQSTR and that the reading application uses the GET_withConvert option...
