Hi there,
We have MQ 5.3 CSD 10 installed on windows 2003 . I experienced the following issue last week with channel reaching its max :

Maximum number of channels reached.

The maximum number of channels that can be in use simultaneously has been reached. The number of permitted channels is a configurable parameter in the queue manager configuration file.

Wait for some of the operating channels to close. Retry the operation when some channels are available.

I am wondering how is the max being reached , when I do display chastatus , I don't see many of them running, also the parameter in the queue manager configuration file has a high value . Can this be caused by threads and processes still running . Will changing the DISCINT attributes help avoiding this type of issue. The thing I am mostly confused about and would appreciate of someone can explain it is :

When a sender channel make connection to a receiver , then I know we should have 2 processes one for sender and one for receiver . Assume this channel goes inactive then goes active again , are we going to have 2 new processes or will it use the same ones . If it uses new processes , then what happened to the old ones , do they still be running.

you may have applications making client connection to the server. These channels will not be running all the time. example( svrconn). They run as long as the connection is there.
you may study the following parameters
TCP:
KeepAlive
Channels:
MaxChannels
PipeLineLength
AdoptNewMCA
AdoptNewMCATimeout

and give them suitable values. They go in qm.ini file ...sorry for windows, you may have to make changes on queue manager object in explorer i believe and restart the queue manager for the changes to take effect
